Make it fly.
FlightHack is an engineering competition where every team gets the same Styrofoam glider, the same hardware kit, and 48 hours. What they turn it into is entirely up to them.
Applications aren’t open yet. Get notified when they are.
- 48hours to build
- 4people per team, max
- 1identical kit for all
- Infiniteways to make it fly
How it works
1. Build
Teams get identical gliders, a standardized hardware kit, and access to shared tools and a workspace.
2. Break
For 48 hours, they modify, program, test, crash, and rebuild, with full creative freedom.
3. Fly
It all ends in a live outdoor flight competition, with every plane taking to the sky in front of spectators.
The competition
There is no single correct way to build the aircraft.
Teams might be tested on speed, airtime on a single battery, or landing on a target. Planes are judged on performance, stability, precision, and innovation.
Multiple awards can be given out, such as:
- Overall Winner
- Most Innovative
- Fan Favorite
Who it’s for
Students who like to build things, whether that means writing code, wiring circuits, or reshaping foam.
Why FlightHack?
Software, electronics, and mechanics in one real build, improved under pressure until it works. A chance to turn an idea into something that actually flies.
FAQ
Is FlightHack confirmed?
Not yet. It’s planned for March 2027 in Budapest. Right now we’re building a prototype glider with a test hardware kit to prove the format works, and putting together the team and partners to make it happen.
When do applications open?
Not yet. Leave your email and we’ll let you know when they do.
Do I need aviation experience?
No. If you like building things, whether that’s code, circuits, or foam, you’re who this is for.
What’s in the hardware kit?
It isn’t final yet. Every team will get the same kit, and we’re testing a first version on our prototype right now.
